Why Vitamin K2 is important to you!

Did you know that Vitamin K2 plays a key role in cardiovascular disease prevention, helps prevent tooth decay, improves brain function among many other essential healthy body functions?
Adequate levels of K2 are required for proper calcium metabolism in order to keep the calcium out of soft tissue and deposited into your teeth and bones where it belongs?
Without proper Vitamin K2 levels, the excess calcium is deposited into your arteries and most research has shown this increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by increasing calcification and plague build up on the arterial walls. This could easily explain why K2 has been shown to help prevent heart attacks and strengthens bones.
Vitamin K1 is found in green leafy vegetables but this is not the same as Vitamin K2. Some K1 is converted to K2, but this process is very inefficient in humans, however it is more efficient in wild and pastured animals. This makes grass-fed based food the easiest way to get K2 into your diet from natural sources.
Are you deficient in vitamin K2? You likely have no idea and unfortunately there’s no easy way to test for Vitamin K2 deficiency. If you get a lot of cavities you might be K2 deficient, it might be worth it to supplement with K2 for a while to see if this helps.
Most people should shoot for consuming around at least 100 micrograms of K2 per day form food and/or supplements for general maintenance based on most research.
Yolks from pastured eggs, grass-fed cheese, butter, fermented foods are the most common ways to get K2 into your diet naturally. Otherwise, supplementation is the way to go to maintain healthy levels.
